Spoil yourself with a sweet breakfast. Waffles in Perth have made a creative comeback on instagram, with more places experimenting with unusual flavours.
Did somebody say, WAFFLES?
Yes, I did. I said something naughty that doesn’t involve bee pollen or kale. While the trend for finding super healthy, delicious and photogenic food continues strong in Perth, so too, does the quest for finding the exact opposite; super indulgent, mouthwatering, ridiculously over-the-top milkshakes, desserts and waffles! Waffles have made a strong comeback onto the Perth foodie scene, but this time, they return with a creative twist.
Forget the traditional grid waffle with syrup and vanilla ice-cream, we’re talking the quirkiest, fluffiest waffles going around with big toppings and unusual, flavoursome ingredients on offer.
From sweet waffles with fruit toppings to savoury waffles with chicken, and even nutritious waffles with protein – there are a variety of creative waffles in Perth to suit your tastebud limits. Go on, spoil yourself to an extravagant waffle once in a while, because after all the regular exercise and green smoothies – you deserve it!
Here are some of Perth’s Best Creative Waffles that are so Instagram-worthy, your followers are bound to salivate.

Located conveniently in the Perth CBD, this place is locally famous for its coffee and breakfast menu. Have you tried their signature waffle yet?!
Waffles with berries, chocolate and pop rocks, making eating waffles extra fun! While inside, take a lingering look at their cake and tart display selection – it’s all baked in-house and presented beautifully. Incredible food here and well priced, it’s light wood interiors and exposed brick creates a sunny, airy feel despite it being on a busy city street. A must visit, without a doubt.

A very chilled place with a variety of seating with fresh decor and a light and bright atmosphere. All types of pedestrians drop in here for the coffee, from cyclists to Police, but if you can – stay for their soul sandwhich waffle, which has gained quite its own fanbase through instagram.
Their ‘soul sandwhich’ is hands down one of the best creative waffles in Perth. It’s a polenta waffle with buttermilk fried chicken, avocado, smoked sour cream, chilli maple syrup and jalapenos. You will be surprised at how amazing the combination of flavours taste together. They also have other great breakfast options.

Super cosy inside, a very unique, homely-looking cafe that makes you feel like you are in someones house. There are posters covering the walls and floral plates, heart shaped spoons and cup handles shaped like ears. Their cookies and cream waffles are fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside – with crunchy cookie bits! So good!

Rabbit in the Moon Cafe, Fremantle
Rabbt in the Moon Cafe is a cute little cafe in a very nice location alongside apartments and the waterside in North Fremantle. You get an amazing view with the jetty behind. Beautifully decorated inside with a relaxed vibe.
Their Kaya Waffle is substantial and flavoursome, with just the right amount of sweetness. It comes with fruit, popping candy covered mascarpone (soft, mild Italian cream cheese), maple syrup and kaya. If you’re not familiar already – kaya is a coconut jam. Overall, it’s a fun eating experience – especially with the popping candy!

Inside, the decor is urban style with exposed brick walls, pretty hanging lights and a large feature mirror. Cushioned benches and big, comfortable chairs are available making this a trendy little place to hang out and chill.
On the menu, their waffles are liquorish infused nashi pear, chocolate truffle mousse & crumble and candied peanuts. It seems they don’t mind experimenting either, with a recent picture on their instagram showing a peanut butter and bacon waffle – would you be game to eat it?

Superstar Waffles, Northbridge
Superstar Waffles is an independent cafe located in an arcade off 189 William Street, Northbridge. It has a trendy, laidback vibe with a large menu on offer and a variety of flavours to choose from. Reasonably priced for the generous toppings available. The waffles are made fresh here!
I recommend the Choc Nut Waffles topped with crushed peanuts and served with cream. The waffle was crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside with delicious, chocolatey goodness. Other notable mentions here are the S’Mores Waffles (stacked with homemade marshmallow fluff and Nutella) and Sweet Milk Waffle (drizzled with sweet, warm condensed milk).

Tropico, North Beach
Tropico is just minutes walk from the coastline of Perth’s northern beaches up in the suburb of North Beach. The decor inside is a coastal Californian vibe with industrial and urban hints. Service was quick and with a smile. The place was buzzing and the menu choices are impressive.
Got the waffles with leatherwood honey, featuring mascarpone, berries and slightly pickled dried grapes. Fried chicken optional. Really flavoursome! The mascarpone (soft, mild Italian cream cheese) is luscious and really could be a breakfast on its own. The combination of flavors was well balanced. Give this one a try next time you’re at Tropico!
